Tie-Dye Nail Tutorial!

I've been doing my nails pretty awesome lately, if I do say so myself. Everywhere I go, I am always getting compliments from people (just ask Sarah or Allyson! LOL!) and they always are asking me how the heck I did them.

Well, here's your chance to learn... =)

I hope you like my little photoshoot. ;) [Sorry, I get bored house sitting! LOL] I just have to point out the Zoolander/Magnum-looking shot in the lower right. Ha!

Step 1: Pick 3 of your favorite (or complimentary) colors! Don't forget to grab your top coat! =)

Step Dos: If you plan on using dark colors, I suggest a base coat... let's just say, you don't want smurf-colored nails for 3 weeks while you try to buff them out. Trust me. Not fun. ;)

Step 3: Paint 1/3 of your lower nail base with the first color. Let dry a couple minutes.

Step 4: Paint the middle 1/3 of your nail base with the second color. Let dry a couple minutes.

Step Cinco: Like that? Spanglish. ;) Anywho- paint the top 1/3 of your nail with the third color.

Optional: Apply some OPI Shatter to it! (Black in my case)

Step 6: Apply top coat.

That's it! Six easy steps, and you can rock tie-dye looking nails!

Sarah, once again, needed a scrappy friend last night but I just wasn't feeling it. I have lots of photos I can scrap, but don't really have any printed off. You know how that goes... I can be the queen of procrastination. ;)

Getting bored watching her, I decided I should really makes some cards since it always seems like I need one and never have one. LOL Here are my little 4"x4" cards... I was able to knock out 6 of them with WeScrap kits only.

Here I cut out my own little arrow embelly with grungeboard.

New Creative Outlet

So I've kind of been a scrappy funk lately, but not necessarily in a creative funk. I've been messing around with making something I'm a tad obsessed about... hair bows. =)

Now that I've been growing my hair out, I wear hair bows more often than not... and every time I see cute ones at the store, I always think to myself "I can totally make these." Turns out, I totally can. ;)

I also messed around with some rings. I saw these lady skull silhouettes on Etsy, and I just couldn't resist. Not to mention, I HAD to add some bling to them. ;)

New Chucks FTW!!

I'm super stoked about my new Converse Allstar's.

I went to their site (www.converse.com) a few weeks back just to browse around and noticed that they had a "Red" section where you could design your own Chucks-- any way that your little heart desires-- and they would custom make your shoe for you, AND donate 15% of your purchase to the needy. How sweet is that?!

Needless to say, I had to totally get on that train... without further adieu, here are mine:

Their site very user friendly, and hip. They even make you name your shoes and everything-- I called mine 'Queen of Hearts'-- which I deemed totally fitting. =)

So, if you're looking for something cool and different, check it out... but do remember it takes 3-4 weeks (just in case you're looking for a gift).

Overall, A+... I'll definitely be ordering another pair... I mean, it's for a good cause, right?? ;)

Coach Insignia & More!!

Everyone with a mom knows it was Mother's Day this weekend... ;)

I like to always show my ma a little love (and sometimes laughs) by hand-making a card for her to celebrate the special day. We always go to Coach Insignia for their awesome Mother's Day brunch, hence, the joke inside the card. (Used WeScrap's Tea Time Kit)

For those of you who don't know, Coach Insignia is a fancy schmancy restaurant all the way on the top of the Ren Cen building (the tallest building with the "GM" on it) in downtown Detroit-- I believe about 70 stories high overlooking the beautiful city, and also Windsor Ontario. (See Below)

As always, we had an amazing time... and I'm pretty sure I'm still full from all the amazing food and desserts! ;)

I scrapped with Sarah on Friday and also knocked out a check book cover for my cousin Kassi. I swear, I'm mildly obsessed with making check book covers for my favorite people... but hey, at least I can admit it. ;) I rocked this one out with a Crate Paper pack and random embellies (and doodles of course!). I joked with her--but almost meant it-- that I was going to rip the K off and put a H there... I'm a little jelly about how stinkin' cute it came out! ;) LOL

New Layouts!

A good and long-time scrappy friend of ours, Sue Sykes, invited myself and Sarah Nolan over the boarder for a little scraptastic voyage last weekend... don't even get me started on the crazy adventure that the boarder crossing was!! LOL! We all got a lot done considering all the chatting we did! ;) Well, I promised I would get my layouts scanned-- and I did exactly that.

Without further adieu...

The first layout I knocked out was entirely WeScrap's kit, Urban Skies. Gotta love all the colors and embellies in that kit! Not to mention all the polka dots!! (Polka Dots = LOVE!)

My second layout was entirely (minus the main alpha, and bling of course) Crate Paper-- used from an older paper pack I had lying around...

I don't think they turned out too shabby considering my scrappy funk, and all the time I just sat there, looking at the layouts, hoping that they would do themselves. ;) LOL

Blinged Out Trinket Box

Just wanted to share a blinged-out trinket box I made a while back. I was keeping it a secret for a while in hopes my best friend's fiance would use it as her ring box to propose to her in... but he went another route. No biggie. Now I just have to find someone else to give it to! ;)

This little box was recycled from Tim Holtz Film Strip Packaging and I thought, this would be so cute if I blinged the crap out of it. I mean, what girl doesn't like a little bling?? ;)

Better Late Than Never...

I wanted to share some pictures from Hallowe'en, since Hallowe'en, but you know it goes... Better late than never. ;) Our family LOVES the holiday and goes ALL OUT every year. I kind of like our little tradition that we've acquired over the years.

This year, we did an Alice in Wonderland theme. I went as Alice, Sarah went as the Queen of Hearts, Patrick was the Mad Hatter, and Mom was the Cheshire Cat (with her small obsession with cats, and all). ;) I got pretty crafty this year, making my own over-sized bow head band, and Mom's cheshire smile...

Another 'All Hallows Eve' tradition that I love is that Sarah and Patrick always have pumpkin carving at their house a couple days before. Mmm, pumpkin seeds. (LOL!) This year, I tackled Jack Skellington from Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas. I think it came out stellar for free-handing it (since I can't draw or anything!) I'm pretty proud of it! =)

Speaking of procrastination, I have a few more projects that need to be scanned so I can put them up here. Yeah... I need to get on that... like next week. ;)

Mackinaw... Finally!

I've lived in Michigan for a quarter of a century, and I had never been to Mackinaw Island. I know... people never believed me that I had never been to northern Michigan and seen the Great Lakes. We *are* the "Great Lakes State" after all... and I wanted to see the Mackiaw Bridge up close... not just on my license. ;)

After about a year and a half of saying we'd take the trip, Allyson and I finally did this past weekend... without further hesitation, here are my top ten favorite photos from our little vacay:

As you can see, we had great weather and an awesome time. If you've never been, I highly suggest making the trip. Nothing's better than the colors that Fall brings in the Mitten. =)

Getting to know me...

I was tagged by Sarah, so here goes!

1. If you blog anonymously, are you happy doing it that way; if you are not anonymous do you wish you had started out anonymously so you could be anonymous now?
No, I don't blog anonymously... My only followers are people I already know, so it doesn't bother me to share my thoughts.

2. Describe one incident that shows your inner stubborn side.
I'm pretty convinced 'Stubborn' is my middle name. LOL! I'm very hard headed, and I know it... and I know it runs in my family. ;) I can't think of one incident in particular... but I can honestly count on both hands how many times people have told me that I was stubborn (I might need a few more fingers! LOL).

3. What do you see when you really look at yourself in the face in the mirror?
35% Jimmy, 35% Susie, 30% Erma (Dad, Mom, Grandma) / I see a strong, brave person / change - physically and emotionally / the beginning signs of aging / a self-conscious being / sometimes a pretty face, sometimes every flaw... with a lot of things in life, I'm hot and cold. lol

4. What is your favorite summer cold drink?
I may be a "Yankee" but I'm a southerner at heart-- Sweet Tea. =)

5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?
Relax, sleep, play my X Box, watch movies, shop, sing along to the 30 gigs on my ipod. ;)

6. Is there something you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it?
I've already accomplished one thing I've wanted to do-- live on my own, out of state, in the mountains... now I need a new goal! ;) Actually, come the new year, I want to get a nice(r) camera and learn how to take decent pictures.

7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the class shy person, or always ditching school? Describe who you were if not one of these.
Sarah said it best-- overachiever with a hint of class clown.

8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment in your life, what do you see?
2007 through 2009-- a lot of crap went down in those two years that changed my entire life and the way I see it... as much as it's made me who I am today, it makes me sad to think how things could have been different if I hadn't lost a few important people in my life.

9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?
It's semi-easy to be myself. Although I'm a huge garbage mouth, I try to behave and speak like a young lady. But I can't help but drop the occasional cuss-bomb. ;)

10. If you had the choice to sit and read or talk on the phone, which would you do and why?
Lately, I have been reading, which is totally off-base for me. I do enjoy the occasional phone call, but I'd rather text.

My June challenge over at WeScrap is a "Pop it" challenge, where I wanted to see dimension on a layout-- more specifically, photos. Below was my example... I actually cut out Aaron and I with an Exacto Knife, and used pop up glue dots to make the image 3D. If you're interested, you can participate here... there's still a few more days to do it!! ;)

June Kit Reveal

I was lucky enough to get to design with it. I have to admit, it’s totally not my scrappy-style, but it is really fun to work with!! (It’s good to get out of your comfort zone, right?! LOL!) I especially love the colors and the pattern papers. Below are my projects made with this amazing kit:

I actually used packaging from the foam accents for the Road Rage layout above.

I decided to try making bottlecap magnets with the kit fixin's and Glossy Accents... probably not the best epoxy to use, but it's all I had-- and I think they came out pretty good! =)

for a few days now to debut my most recent project! I'm doing a Recycle Challenge over at WeScrap today for NSD. To check it out, you can go here. Feel free to play along, if you're not already! There's a lot of fun stuff going on there! =)

I made an altered frame re-using Scrabble pieces for my title.

It was super simple: just a dollar store frame, painted the matting, popped some Tim Holtz mini paper clips on, of course recycled the Scrabble pieces, and busted out my best friend (the Label Buddy). LOL

I'm pretty happy how it came out-- after all, it was my first altered frame. =)

I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it! Besides the fact that Dairy Queen is celebrating their 25th anniversary with $.25 Blizzards this week (lol), I also wanted to share with you that I will be one of WeScrap's Design Team Members for the next 6 months! I'm truly honored... there is so much talent on that site, it's friggin' crazy! This will be my first time designing so I am really looking forward to it, and working with the gals. I'm definitely thanking WeScrap for giving me a chance!! =)

Other than that, I'm doing well. Still truckin' along. My friend Allyson and I went on Saturday to "bond" and get something pierced... I mean, that's what girls do to bond, right?! ;) Anyway-- I ended up getting my anti-tragus (or "snug"-- the inner flap of the ear) pierced and figured I'd share a pic! [Not to be confused with my "bowl"-- the one that goes completely through the middle of the ear; for all you ear-illiterate people ;) ]

It's healing extremely well, and FAST! The swelling is down, and I can [pretty much] sleep on that side of my face again. Overall, it wasn't bad! And for those of you wondering what Allyson got... it's called shafted. lol The piercer ran out of jewelry! I think deep down she liked it better that way, and just watched me get mine. =)

Some New Creations

Still been busy with WeScrap's Next Top Designer Challenge... here are my recent layouts for the contest. =)

Challenge #4 - The Final Casting Call - We had to provide a sketch, use it on a layout, and make a tutorial and use it in our layouts (I chose making heart flowers). It also had to incorporate our "Guilty Pleasure" (mine being ice cream, of course!) LOL

Challenge #3 - The Dress (we had to pick 2 dresses from a Runway and incorporate it into our layouts (for me, ruching and cutouts).

Challenge #2 - The Makeover (stepping outside of your comfort zone-- mine is cutting-- as juvenile as that sounds, and also stitching and making my own embellishments)

I'm having a lot of fun with the challenges... it's just sad that it's over now! I guess I'll have to FINALLY get around to that mini book of Disney I've been procrastinating on since October... LOL!

WeScrap's Next Top Designer Contest

WeScrap's having their Next Top Designer Contest right now and I decided to try out... there's A LOT of talent on that site so it will be cool to see how far I can make it in the contest. I've never been in a contest of this sort so it's pretty exciting for me.

The first challenge is called the "Glossy Challenge" where it must include a head-shot as well as at least 5 random facts about yourself. I decided to rock it out with WeScrap's Ruby Soho Kit (well, like 99% of it!) LOL! Here's what I came up with:

The journaling reads: "I'm the worst story-teller - I love spicy food - I'm obsessed with make-up - I love to scrapbook - I never follow directions when building stuff or cooking - Ice cream is my weakness - The word I over-use most is "Dude!" - I have a hard time writing in a straight line - I floss every day"

I'll be sure to keep you posted on (hopefully) future challenges! =)

Well, I figured it's time to get on the blogwagon... even though, I'm not quite sure what is going on in my life that's "cool" enough to blog. ;)

I figured I'd start with some recent projects... there was a great fund-raiser crop going on 2 Sunday's ago and I knocked out some cool layouts using 100% WeScrap's March Kit ("Late Night" you can get it at http://www.wescrap.com).

Here's another of my nephew Boston, Finnegan... who you can't deny has the cutest face ever!

I have to say, this kit is filled with goodies and the cuteness factor! Gotta love the custom button embellies! I feel like picking up another kit just to get more of the buttons! =)

I'm sure I'll be back with other projects... when I get around to doing them. ;)
